Google Chrome Review and Few Hidden Developer Tools
So here’s the new thing from Google’s kitchen. After so many rumors about Google’s Operating system it turns out to be Google’s new browser Google Chrome. So what’s special about Google chrome??What makes it different from other browsers ? Does it mean that Firefox is going to be dead ?
Lets start the unique feature of Google chrome.
Universal Typing Box
Google Chrome uses a single text box for everything including History search, Web search, URL Bar. One single text bar for everything you need. The feature is cool and easy to use. This feature reduces the space taken by the tools and provides more onscreen space for browsing. Nice!!
Tabbed Browsing
Introduced by IBrowse and was followed by Opera in 2000, Mozilla in 2001, Konqueror in 2003, Safari in 2003 and internet explorer in 2006 Tabbed browsing have became of the basic needs of a browser.
Google chrome uses a similar tabbed browsing. Every time a new tab is opened, a page containing thumbnails of your most visited sites (Similar to speed dial feature of opera), most used search engines, and recently bookmarked pages is displayed. You can move the tabs as per your convenience .You can also new window and gather multiple tabs on a single window.
Forget about program crashes
This new “Crash Control” feature saves the program from crashing all the tabs, every tab on a window in depend, hence even if a single tabs crash your other tabs are safe. Each tab runs it own separate process, although the idea is good but may lead to heavy processor usage if too many tabs are opened.
Incognito Mode
Welcome to the new Porn Mode K . Incognito Mode is actually a new window which have a special property that it doesn’t save any of your history, Cookies although it saves the bookmarks. Very useful feature if you are browsing on a public computer.
Safe Browsing
The same security feature used in Internet explorer and firefox.If you are visiting a suspected phishing website, malware or otherwise unsafe website then this feature will warn you.
Easy Bookmarks
Similar to Firefox 3 and Internet explorer 7 Google chrome adopts the one click bookmark feature. All you need to click on the star near the url bar to bookmark that page
Importing your settings
Upon installation Google chrome automatically detects your default browser and provides you with the option to import your present settings and bookmarks to Google chrome. It also imports your saved passwords on Firefox. If you want to import the setting and bookmarks from other browsers than this feature can be accessed from the tool bar
Simple downloader
Google Chrome uses a very simple downloader, nothing very special just the basic pause/resume functions. Although all your live downloads can be easily managed from your bottom of the browser. This same thing can be done in Firefox using the extension known as “Download Status bar”
Developer Tools
From the menu developers can access factures like “View Source”, “Debug Javascript”, “Javascript console”, and “Task Manager”. That also uses their won JavaScript engine so these were required. The “Task Manager” tool is a small tool by which you can monitor your tabs and memory usage.Some of the hidden advanced pages can be found using commands like
- about:memory – Details about memory usage
- about:plugins – Displays details about plugins
- about:version - obviously version information (also accessible by chrome-resource://about/)
- about:plugins - obviously installed plugins
- about:histograms - hey I love this one! don’t quite know what this all means though
- about:dns - obviously just some DNS stats
- about:cache, redirecting to view-cache: - list of cached documents, each viewable in HEX!
- view-cache:stats - stats for cached documents
- about:stats - obviously just some stats
- about:network - that’s an awesome tool!
- about:internets - oh, an Easter Egg of a kind? look at the page title - The Tubes are Clogged! ;))
- about:crash - will display the default crash page banner
Configuration
The configuration dialog box doesn’t have too may features. Although it contains all the basic features and options but advance users may get disappointed.
So All in all it’s Google Chrome is a perfect browser,ofcource better than internet explorer and Very similar to firefox and opera. Although Firefox is more customizable than Google chrome. Incognito Mode and multiprocessing tabs are some of the new features introduced by Google chrome in the browser world.Well hope that future releases will bring more new features.

Google Announces Their New Browser
As per the official post on googles blog google annonces the launch of their new opensource webbrowser “Chrome”.Another
So whats new in this borwser ??
Google Says “Because we believe we can add value for users and, at the same time, help drive innovation on the web.”
Google going to make is project Open Source.You may have probably guessed it ,Its going to be a hard competitor for Firefox.They promise that it will be very light on system and will be faster than other browsers.I am pretty sure they are going to make it very user friendly as usual.Their basic idea of the browser is to cretae an multiprocessing browser just like an operating system . It will be using the WebKit rendering engine, as is used by in Apple products (including Safari, and iPhone) ,Nokia S60 phones.As per their comic book it will be having an “Autodial” start page, similar to Opera.
